Promotion of Gender and Disability in Togo

Implementing Partners: Togolese Federation of Disabled People

Funding Period: March 2009 - March 2011

Funding Amount: $249,100

In Togo, USAID is implementing a program through the Togolese Federation of Association of Disabled People (FETAPH), with the support of Handicap International (HI). The program promotes gender equity within DPOs and within the mission's disability activities.

Specific activities include

  • conducting training on gender and disability to improve female participation in DPOs, and conducting an awareness campaign by women’s DPO
  • providing small grants to women’s DPOs to implement projects related to social and econonic issues of people with disabilties
  • establishing an inclusive education pilot project with twenty girls
  • ensuring that health centers are accessible to women with disabilities
  • conducting regional meetings with health officials and ministries to brief them on progress and other issues related to women with disabilities
