Creating an Inclusive Environment for People with Disabilities

Implementing Partners: Mercy Corps

DPO Partners: The Mongolian National Federation of Disabled Persons Organizations

Funding Period: January 2009 - December 2010

Funding Amount: $299,408

In Mongolia, Mercy Corps is partnering with the National Federation of Disabled People’s Organizations to create a legal environment that protects the rights of people with disabilities. The program also works in rural areas of Mongolia to strengthen the capacity of people with disabilities to advocate for their own rights.

These goals will be achieved through

  • the provision of technical assistance and training to DPOs (with a focus on rural DPOs)
  • a small grant program where $70,000 will be given to DPOs upon their completion of trainings on proposal development and program management
  • implementation of a series of trainings on disability awareness for relevant stakeholders, such as government officials, the legal community, and medical officials
