Empowering, Entertaining and Educational Program to Promote and Protect the Human Rights of People with Disabilities in Mali

The Population Media Center (PMC) works to educate the public on issues related to disability through already successful
radio soap-opera programming. PMC creates and broadcasts long-running serial dramas in which characters with
disabilities model the development of awareness and self-efficacy so they can fully participate with their families
and communities in the development of their nation. The program is conducted in collaboration with the Malian
Federation of Associations of Handicapped Persons (FEMAPH), which serves as a partner and advisor throughout the program.
Inclusion of People with Disabilities in Microenterprise Development for the Alleviation of Extreme Poverty

DPO Partners: Malian Regional Federation of Disabled Persons Associations
Amount: $115,648
Trickle Up is conducting a micro enterprise program with the overall goal of improving the economic status of people with disabilities.
Specific objectives of the program include
- building the capacity of thirty DPOs to advocate for the full inclusion of people with disabilities in community life
- empowering the 750 members of the thirty various disability associations in Mali
to have a stronger voice in family and community life
- strengthening the capacity of organizations working in the area of microfinance to better
integrate people with disabilities throughout all aspects of their work
The program has also developed a series of tools:
- an in-depth Outcomes Assessment Tool will
track livelihood outcomes
- a Poverty Assessment Tool will
track the progress of poverty
- a participatory Needs
Assessment Tool will assist the organization ing better tailoring its programs to people with
disabilities and ensuring fully inclusive programming
