Implementing Partners: Sembana Mijoro Center

Funding Period: February 2009 - February 2010

Funding Amount: $24,800

In Madagascar, USAID supports the Sembana Mijoro Center, an organization run by people with disabilities.

The program seeks to:

  • provide information about the rights and the needs of children with disabilities in relation to education
  • assess the integration of children with disabilities into school and identify potential barriers to their participation
  • build the public's awareness of local and national authorities and educators on inclusive education programs
  • build the advocacy capacities of associations working with people with disabilities and education

The program has also established a unit in the Sembana Mijoro Center to provide guidance on disability awareness and inclusion for disability associations on education for children with disabilities.
