In Kenya, the Academy for Educational Development (AED) manages the Kenya Small Grant Institutional Strengthen Program (CAP Kenya), which currently provides funds to Handicap International to strengthen the advocacy and managerial capacities of DPOs.

This program builds on an existing successful program that has worked to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in HIV/AIDS awareness raising and education programs and to strengthen the capacity of DPOs to advocate for the full inclusion of people with disabilties.

Specifically the program works to

  • provide advocacy training session for DPOs
  • continue to build institutional capacity of DPOs
  • develop disability awareness sessions for USAID partners and others working in HIV/AIDS
  • assess the integration of other partners' programs in these areas
  • adapt materials for the inclusion of people disabilities and share best practices
