Schooling for Disabled Children

Implementing Partners: The Relief Society of Tigray (REST)

Funding Period: August 2008 - September 2009

Amount: $8,000

This pilot project works to provide education to children and encourage their inclusion in mainstream education services. The project is developing approaches to broaden educational opportunities for children who are not attending school due to disability in the six Waredas of Tigray: Ahferom, Werie Leke, Mereb Leke, Degua Tembien, Wukro and Raya Azebo. The project provides books and other school supplies to children and assists them in registering them to attend school.

The project also conducts workshops and other events in the Waredas to raise awareness among stakeholders and members of the community of the challenges faced by children with disabilities in attending school.
