USAID Research and Innovation Fellowships

“Attracting great minds to places of great opportunity”

“ So we will continue to pursue advances in science and engineering, in infrastructure and innovation, in education and environmental protection -- especially science-based initiatives.”

-President Barack Obama, Remarks on the 150th Anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences, April 29, 2013

The USAID Research and Innovation Fellowships aim to build a sustainable model for knowledge exchange by connecting bright American minds with key in-country organizations to collaboratively apply science, technology, and innovation to complex development challenges. The Fellowships offer unique opportunities for Fellows to provide critical research and technical expertise to exciting, progressive projects and initiatives with tangible and finite goals. Additionally, the Fellowships allow for complementary program design, incorporating the needs of the host organization within the scope of the Fellows’ existing studies and research. Ultimately, the Fellowships hope to foster stronger human networks and improve sharing of organizational best practices under the umbrella of science, technology, and innovation for stronger development. In 2014, through a partnership with the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and drawing upon the resources of USAID’s existing network of programs, the Fellowships program will place promising talent from institutions around the United States with hosts in 13 developing countries.
