Press Release

President Joseph R. Biden announced USAID’s intent to provide up to $100 million to support the East Jerusalem Hospital Network (EJHN) today during his historic visit to the Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem. The funding will ensure continued support for otherwise unavailable life-saving treatments to tens of thousands of Palestinians, demonstrating the United States’ commitment to the Palestinian people.

Working with Congress, USAID will provide a package of debt relief and technical assistance to EJHN. USAID will help EJHN modernize its operations and continue to provide advanced health care services to Palestinians, including highly specialized medical services, such as pediatric cardiac surgery, cardiac catheterization, nephrology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and cancer treatment. This assistance builds on previous USAID support for EJHN totaling $95 million since 2014.

USAID is committed to improving the lives of the Palestinian people to lay the foundation for an eventual two-state solution. In addition to supporting EJHN, USAID provides additional support to the Palestinian health sector including COVID-19 response assistance in the West Bank and Gaza and facilitated the U.S donation of over one million vaccines via COVAX.
