Press Release

The below is attributable to Spokesperson Rebecca Chalif:‎

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power met with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan today to discuss USAID’s commitment to its long standing partnership with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as well as the country’s plans for an inclusive response to and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. To support the country’s efforts, over the weekend, the United States delivered 500,000 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses to Jordan and provided $600 million to support Jordan’s priorities of increasing economic growth and improving education, health, and water provision.

Administrator Power and His Majesty King Abdullah discussed advancing economic opportunities for women and youth, whose inclusion and empowerment is critical for economic recovery and must be considered as Jordan charts out its pandemic recovery plan. They also discussed the deepening political and humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, and the need for a concerted regional and international response.

The Administrator also thanked King Abdullah for Jordan’s continued regional leadership in hosting Syrian, Palestinian, and other refugees, particularly by providing health and education support throughout the pandemic.
