On February 15, 2022, Administrator Power met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director (MD) Kristalina Georgieva. After they affirmed their respective institutions’ commitment to the Ukrainian people, Administrator Power described USAID’s work and engagement with local entities in response to potential threats. They also discussed the need to continue looking for ways to support the Afghan people in the face of a worsening humanitarian and economic situation.

Administrator Power shared an update on USAID’s Global VAX initiative and complementarity with the IMF’s approach to supporting access to COVID-19 vaccines, testing, and therapies in the future. They also spoke about the importance of the IMF’s role in the Multilateral Leaders Task Force to help link finance and health ministries to achieve more integrated, longer-term recovery and pandemic preparedness. Administrator Power and Managing Director Georgieva agreed to increase coordination between IMF country offices and USAID Missions in countries in need of international support.
