In Yemen, many are operating within a context of a struggling economy, overcrowded living conditions, and an overwhelmed Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure. Additionally, a large number of children remain unreachable through routine immunization interventions. As a result of these challenges, Yemen has experienced an increase in measles and other communicable diseases cases among children. USAID and CARE work to raise public awareness of the importance of vaccinating children against measles through broadcasting videos and messages on local TV and radio stations. One campaign that took place from September to October 2023 reached 1,500,000 viewers via TV channel and 200,000 listeners via radio station. USAID works to improve the country’s WASH infrastructure and increase immunizations for communicable diseases to protect the health of all Yemenis.
