On March 22, 2024, USAID joined the 2024 World TB Day Celebration organized by the National TB Program (NTP) in Hanoi. USAID Mission Director Aler Grubbs met with officials from the Government of Vietnam, Ministry of Health, National Lung hospital, and provincial officials. Ms. Grubbs delivered the development partner speech commending the NTP and community for supporting the fight against TB and emphasizing USAID’s commitment to support Vietnam to end TB in furtherance of the U.S. Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Vietnam is among the 30 highest TB burden countries with over 170,000 people becoming sick each year with TB, but only 100,000 patients are identified and treated.
The 2024 annual public celebration is an awareness raising event to show a united front in the fight against TB with the National TB program by celebrating success and to increase public awareness about TB.
